The US government is endeavoring to build a globally competitive US clean energy infrastructure that includes developing complete supply chains for related technologies. As a result, there is no better time than now for the general counsels and management of solar and wind companies to consider establishing or relocating solar and/or wind energy manufacturing facilities to the United States. For example, pursuant to the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA), the US Department of Energy has created a Smart Grid Investment Grant Program that will provide ‘matching’ grants to public utilities and other entities investing in the deployment of smart grid technologies.
