On December 8, 2009, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) decided to launch a one-year pilot program that includes accelerating the review of “Green Technology” patent applications. In order to facilitate the funding and advancement of “Green Technologies” the government is allowing patent applicants to “jump the cue” and have their patents examined on priority with the goal of reducing the average time to Registration from 40 months to 12 months. This new Pilot Program will apply to both non-provisional patent applications as well as International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patents. If your technology can be classified as a “Green Technology,” consider contacting one of Exemplar’s patent professionals to explore the implications of this new pilot and how you can protect your Intellectual Property and facilitate the funding of your venture.
